Enhancing Speaking Skills among Engineering Students using Role-play activities

Abstract
English is widely perceived in India as a valuable life and employability skill. The study of Engineering emerged as
gratifying careers of the contemporary world. It gives an opportunity to opt for different areas of engineering with
interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary elements. A great part of an engineer is a proper communication. So, English and
Engineering are integrated parts of an engineer’s career growth, thus improvement of both simultaneously is inevitable.
In the last decade, many researchers have focused on the issues of effective language skills for future engineering
professionals. But most of them were persistent to grammar checking, spoken vocabulary, etc. This paper presented and
discussed on many issues related to the improvement of engineering student Speaking skills in English by developing
Role Play approach. Logic is developed during presentation to put into practice the technique. This technique has been
applied to the selected student for validation and verification. This technique can also be applied to engineers or other
people to learn English.
