VARIABLES INFLUENCING PROFESSIONAL CONTENTMENT OF TEACHERS

Abstract
Education is the process that prepares the person for a productive, gradual, cultured and civilized life. In the education system the teacher is central. Famous educators accept that the quality of their teachers cannot be increased by any education system. Looking towards the significance of Professional contentment in the present scenario, the investigator is keen to study the variables influencing the Professional contentment of school teachers in Cuddalore district, TamilNadu state, India. The study was conducted using a normative survey research design. The study sampled 658 school teachers. It is observed that there exists a positive and significant relationship between Professional contentment and leverage technology, professional contentment and emotional intelligence and Professional contentment and self-efficacy. Further it is observed that there exists negative and significant relationship between professional contentment and occupational stress, professional contentment and teaching attitude. Also in this study positive and significant relationship, negative and significant relationship and negative and not significant relationship between five independent variables considered in this study have been observed. Among the five independent variables considered in this study emotional intelligence wields highest influence on professional contentment of teachers.
