Feature reduction based on Sequential pattern matching to detect worm hole attack in Intrusion detection system

Abstract
Wireless adhoc network is a decentralized network which has dynamic topology to establish end-to-end communication through multi-hop route operation with multiple nodes cooperating themselves when source and destination nodes are not in the coverage. Due to wireless nature, it has more security issues than infrastructure network. Wormhole attack is one of the major security threats in a network layer. It can be launched easily even without having any prior knowledge of network. Prevention mechanisms rely on only signatures. Reactive measures like intrusion detection systems detect all kinds of attacks. Most of intrusion detection systems use features from different layers of network. One of problem is computing a large set of layered features from ad hoc network. This research work uses Sequential Pattern Matching (SPM intrusion detection techniques to reduce number of wireless feature set for detection of worm hole attack. The reduced feature set has been applied to sequential pattern matching for detection of attacks. The performance metrics of the intrusion detection techniques have been analysed.
