  • Abstract
Work has an essential place in every human’s life and day to day activities and it is considered as a basic tool through which one can achieve his needs. Work engagement is defined as the cognitive belief state of the psychological identification of the employee with her/his job. Teachers who are engaged in their jobs can be influential in turning their university into effective and actual institution. Work engagements affect both the employee’s job performance and side by side productivity. The word engagement refers to the three concepts based on love, respect and being loyal to someone. This concept also refers to the commitment that an individual shows to another individual or to an institution or organization .The present paper on work engagement scale by Schaufeli and Bakker (2003) is modified in Indian context especially for university teachers. The two statistical terms confirmatory factor analysis and Cronbach’s statistics was carried out in order to find out the validity and reliability of the scale in Indian context. Based on a sample of 210 respondents empirical evidence demonstrate an excellent fit of multidimensional structure and alpha coefficient is adequate for the entire work engagement scale. This study has proved the suitability of the work engagement scalein Indian context for university teachers.
