MEDIATING EFFECTS OF SOFT SKILLS TO BUSINESS PERFORMANCE: A STUDY ON A MANUFACTURING ORGANIZATION

Susan Tee Suan Chin, Rosman Md Yusoff.

Abstract
Malaysia is one of the top-performing countries among the Association of Southeast Asian
Nations (ASEAN). In the last few years, many companies are working towards Industry Revolution (IR) 4.0. The
IR4.0 focuses more on demographic quality rather than quantity. The IR4.0 requires soft-skills that enabled
employees to be productive. To analyze this effect, a company was selected. The company is one of the first few
companies selected to participate in the program in Melaka. This paper studied, 3 variables; emotional
intelligence (EI), organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), and organizational performance. Questionnaires
developed by Palmer and Stough (Emotional Intelligence) and Podsakoff et al (Organisational Citizenship
Behaviour) were used to collect the data. Based on the study, it was found that EI enhances the relationship
between OCB to organizational performance. Organizations do require employees who are good at team
working, conscientious and high in civic virtue.

Key words: Productivity, Progress, Profits 1.
