TEACHER PROACTIVE WORK BEHAVIOR: A PREVIEW AT THE INFLUENCING FACTORS

Abstract
Education foresees the future of a nation, and the success of a nation depends fundamentally on the knowledge, skills and competencies of its people. The main educational trust goes to teachers, with teachers being the largest school-based factor in determining the outcomes of students in the world class (C. Fernet et al. 2016). Teachers are expected to perform assigned jobs today, go beyond assigned projects, change oriented and be passionate in job. One of the behaviours among teachers‟ action that go beyond assigned projects and changed oriented work is proactive work behaviour (PWB) which is a desirable qualification for many jobs (Cerit, 2017; Parker et al., 2010; Zhang et al., 2012). Proactive teachers are vital workforce in achieving the educational policy aim in enhancing the quality of education and developing nation‟s human capital. As stated by Garg and Rastogi (2006), the success of organizations depends on the commitment and effort put by their employees. This article mainly discusses the influencing factors of role-breadth self-efficacy, learning goal orientation, leader-member relationship, bureaucratic structure, workload, work passion and its relationship as predictors of teacher‟s proactive work behavior. Second, this article provides the theoretical perspectives that can be used to best explain the factors influencing teacher‟s proactive work behavior. This article combines with prior research stream jointly recommends the factors: role-breadth self-efficacy, learning goal orientation, leader-member relationship, bureaucratic structure, workload, work passion that influences and its relationships as predictors of teacher proactive work behavior. Several practical implications are on teachers and principals especially influence the school practice by highlighting ways to increase proactive work behavior among teachers. Also, the article will be useful for principals to review, evaluate, and assess their strength and weakness in practicing leader-member relationship in schools, and provides further assistance in developing new policies and procedures in teacher development programs.
