THE ACADEMIC GRATIFICATION DELAY AND ITS RELATION WITH THE PERSONALITY FEATURES OF STUDENTS AT AL-MUSTANSIRAYA UNIVERSITY

Abstract
The delay of the academic gratification can be conducive to predicting the degrees of the studentsí future comprehension. Self-organization enables the student to overcome the educational obstacles throughout increasing his wish to learn and control the process of learning so as to bring about achievement, for the student will be able to have the continuance of the factors contributing to the continuity of concentration on his taskís details leading to achieving a high-level aim. Thus, throughout abandoning what may the aims make available of attraction and opportunities the student will be given relief and interest in playing with and meeting his friends. The delay of academic gratification is bound by a number of personality features such as the ability to enjoy volition and control, the control of behavior and self-confidence.
This study aims at diagnosing the relationship between the delay of academic gratification and personality features, and the difference in the genderís variation. A specimen of (300) students, male and female, at Al-Mustansirya University are tested. The criterion of Karabenick and Bembenutty (1988) was used to measure the delay of the academic gratification, a Cattellís test of the sixteen factors of personality (translated by Al-Rubaie, (2010). The findings show that the students have the ability to delay gratification and are with positive personality features, and there is a positive relationship between the delay of gratification and personality features. Besides, there are not differences between the two sexes in relation to the two variations.
