THE INFLUENCE OF TEACHER SUPPORT ON STUDENT ENGAGEMENT: BASIC NEED SATISFACTION AND ACADEMIC BUOYANCY AS MEDIATORS

Abstract
The present research aims to investigate the influence of teacher support on engagement through
basic need satisfaction and academic buoyancy in senior high school student. The participant of the research
consisted of 213 high school students (Female = 126, 59.2%; Male = 87, 40.8%). Age of participantís ranged
between 15-17 years old (Mean =15.41; SD=0.53). Instrument in this research included Teacher Support
Questionnaire, Basic needs Satisfaction in General-Scale (BNSG-S), Engagement Questionnaire, Academic
Buoyancy Scale. Data analysis was conducted using path analysis. Teacher support were positively associated
with basic need satisfactions and academic buoyancy. The influence between teacher support and engagement
was fully mediated by basic need satisfactions and academic buoyancy. Findings and implication for practice
and future research were discussed in academic context in Indonesia.
