IMPACT OF PESTICIDES ON FOOD AND AGRICULTURE LAND

Abstract
Agriculture is one of the constant areas of development in Indian economy. Indian has been an important
provider of food and other agricultural by products across the globe. The constant need to fulfil the requirements at a
global level, the production has to fast and efficient and in larger quantities, so the use of pesticides come into play. The
largest numbers of pesticides are produced in India throughout Asia (Abhilash & Singh, 2009). A lot of people in India
are dependent on agriculture, therefore are exposed to the pesticides that are used in agriculture. The pesticides can have
harmful effects on the crop, soil, food and humans. Humans right now are growing and as the population raises the stakes
of having good food and good agricultural lands will be higher. The term pesticides are an umbrella term for a lot of
others compounds such as insecticides, fungicides, rodenticides, fungicides, plant growth regulator and many others.
Well, the intentions to which the pesticides are created are to target the pests or other environmental causes to not affect
the crop production but unfortunately the overuses and negligence of these compounds has led to deadly effects on
humans and other life forms (Abhilash & Singh, 2009).1

Key words: The pesticides can have harmful effects on the crop, soil, food and humans
