  • Abstract
Pain with intramuscular (IM) injection with various types of injections such as oil based, supplemental has been limited studied. Various techniques can be performed to decrease the pain extent during IM injection. The aim of the study was to find the Pain extent during IM injection using Helfer rhythmic Gluteal Tap. The quasi experimental study to assess the effect of Helfer rhythmic Gluteal Tap for procedural pain among hospitalised patient. Total 60 subjects receiving different type of IM injection at gluteal site were selected by using purposive sampling technique. In experimental group before needle penetration at gluteal site subject were provided 10 sec Helfer rhythmic Gluteal Tap with index and middle finger whereas in control group subject were provided IM injection at gluteal site with routine technique. Pain perception was assessed using Numerical Pain Rating Scale during IM injection administration in both groups. In experimental group the needle was withdrawn by simultaneous tap at the gluteal site with non-dominant hand. The findings of the study revealed that Helfer Rhythmic Gluteal Tap before IM injection administration had significant effect on pain score at p<0.05.
