WEAR CHARACTERISTICS INVESTIGATIONS OF AA2014-SIC UNDER DRY SLIDING CONDITIONS

Abstract
In this research, the aluminium metal matrix composite was synthesized by vacuum stir casting process and the dry sliding wear and frictional behavior of composites have been studied. The Aluminium alloy (AA2014) was reinforced with SiC nano particles and the microstructure was observed through SEM process and the tribological properties with different sliding velocities (1,1.5 and 2m/s) and varying loads (3kg, 6kg and 9kg) at sliding distance 100mts were studied using pin on disc apparatus. Experiment analysis revealed that the hardness increases for binary composite and wear rate increases with increase in sliding velocity for both base alloy and SiC based alloy.
