THE 21ST CENTURY LEARNING AS A KNOWLEDGE AGE: THE EFFECTS ON TEACHERíS TRANSFORMING TEACHERíS KNOWLEDGE IN TECHNOLOGY-RICH ENVIRONMENT IN SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION

Abstract
This study investigated the effects of 21st century learning as a knowledge age on teacherís transforming teacher knowledge in technology-rich environment. The study was conducted in the city of Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan with six male and female teachers whose cumulative teaching service and experience of the participants is 113 years in social studies education. The purpose of this study is to enhance perceptions for the effects of transforming teacher knowledge in technology-rich environment in social studies education. For this study, the qualitative study method was used. The interview with each of the six participants was conducted separately. The results of this study indicate that the approach of collaborative environment is the motivating factor for new approaches of practice for school systems if teachers are committed to creating new concepts of teaching and learning collaboratively, which require a substantial transition in teaching and learning philosophy. This is how a more complex, depth-dependent method and diverse, positive, collaborative learning environment evolve as teaching methods are transformed. Even though school teachers remain firmly very frustrated with the limitations of traditional school-built structures, methods which negatively affect the innovation of dynamic learning designs, and building on authentic, technological learning environments can enhance individualized, engaging, and deep learning that lead to better learning environments.
