EFFECT OF FEEDING INDIGENOUS FEEDSTUFFS SUPPLEMENTED WITH DIFFERENT ORGANIC INOCULANTS IN THE GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF PEKIN DUCKS (Anas platyrhynchos domestica)

Freddie O. Libatique.

Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the effect of feeding indigenous feedstuffs (IF) supplemented with different organic inoculants as water additives on the growth of 120 pekin ducklings for 6 weeks rearing period; Treatments were T1 (control) IF + pure drinking water: T2- IF + Amino Acid (AA) Plus: T3- IF + Effective Microorganism (EM) and T4- IF + Carrageenan (Ca). Data showed a highly significant (P<0.001) result on the body weights of pekin ducks. T2 and T3 obtained the highest means of 3,368.75 grams and 3,345.83 grams respectively while a not significant results were observed on the cumulative feed and water additives consumption. A highly significant(P<0.001) result was also noted on the gain in weight which was obtained by T2 as the highest which is similar to T3 with a means of 1,975.20 grams and 1,943.75 grams, respectively. Likewise, data showed T2 had the best feed conversion ratio of 2.69 kg. A highly significant (P<0.001) result was also noted on the feed conversion efficiency by T2 with a mean of 37.18%, however, a not significant results were noted on the liver and pancreas weight. Based on the result, the addition of organic inoculants as water additives can boost the growth of pekin ducks. Moreover, these organic inoculants have no indication of toxicity. Furthermore, Amino acid is recommended as it gave the highest return on investment.

Key words: Amino Acid plus, Carrageenan, Effective Microorganism plus, Indigenous Feedstuffs, Inoculants,
