BRAND ACTIVITIES FOR DETERMINING THE MARKET PRICE MOVEMENT OF SELECTED STOCKS LISTED IN NSEIL

Abstract
Brand activities are the major driving forces for the success of every firm. The organisation wants to position
themselves to the customer and investors by making changes in their products and services. Companies are
trying to develop its brand value through various strategies like rebranding, re-launching and further extension
of brands. This strategic decision will be an essential factor which will reflect in the stock price movement.
Every attempt made by the marketer to strengthen their brands which has a significant impact on stock price.
Hence the brand activities are the major source for determining brand equity, and that brand equity will be the
source for determining the shareholders' value. In this study brand activities like Re-launching, Re-branding,and
related brand extension have been taken to measure the significant impact on stock price movement. Therefore,
companies are using various strategies to stay in the mind of the customers and carrying out brand based
activities. In India, the connection between brand activities and its impact on the stock price movements are high
and elusive as the market dynamics happen at a quicker pace due to the entry of new multinational companies,
the emergence of the number of brands etc. This project focuses on bringing out the factors which are creating
the indelible impact on the NSE stocks due to the company‟s various branding activities. This analysis takes
seven companies including Vodafone idea ltd, Bharti Airtel, State Bank Of India Ltd, HCL Technologies Ltd,
HDFC Bank Ltd, ICICI Bank Ltd and MRF Ltd. The study entirely based on secondary data collected from
NSE. This study has adopted the Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH) to find the impact on the stock price based
on the signalling in terms of brand announcements given by the companies collected from NSE index. This
study analyses the various brand activities which are carried out by the companies and the movement of stock
price and finds the positive or negative impact in these stock prices. Major findings of this study for Vodafone
idea launches India‟s first iPHONE forever campaign for customers to Upgrade, Replace and Repair iPhone at a
nominal cost. This brand campaign program of Vodafone idea Ltd has gained a positive effect on the stock
market. Thus Major findings of this study, suggests the investors that brand activities of companies have created
a positive impact on the stock price.
