MACHINE LEARNING BASED HOME ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Abstract
This paper presents the concept of a smart home energy
management system by monitoring the home loads, where
the power is produced from the solar panel and power grid
for the utilization. The smart home is equipped with a
household battery storage, photovoltaics solar panel (PV),
connected to the house load (appliances). By estimating
the consumption of energy from the solar production and
energy from electricity grid, the increasing energy
demand of the house can be compensated by drawing the
maximum energy from the battery obtained by solar
panels instead of the grid. Moreover, the usage of
photovoltaics solar batteries can compensate for the
fluctuations of the electric grid. An optimized SHEMS
(Smart Home Energy Management System) provides the
opportunity for economic incentives for smart home
through the management of renewable solar energy
production, storage, and consumption. An algorithm
based on machine learning focuses on the consumption of
energy usage from the load by considering the energy
tariff for every home appliance used. The proposed
algorithm seeks for the minimum overall energy cost for
the smart home, while satisfying household power
demand thereby reducing the consumer electricity bill
within the convenient level.

Key words: An optimized SHEMS (Smart Home Energy Management System) provides the opportunity for economic incentives for smart home through the management of renewable solar energy production, storage, and consumption.
