Temporal Assessment of Production and Consumption of Conventional Energy Products in India: Managerial and Issues

Dr. Nikhil Varghese.

Abstract
The consumption of coal and lignite in India is almost similar so also the compound annual
growth rates of these during long term and short period. The consumption of these two solid conventional energy
sources largely depend on domestic production. For crude petroleum, the domestic production accounted for
37.3% of consumption in 1970 and only 18.0% in 2018-19 implying that the import dependence of crude
petroleum has gone up over the years to meet ever increasing demand for petroleum products. The consumption
requirement of natural gas is mostly met out through domestic production. The electric power produced under
utility is also consumed within the country. The low energy intensity coupled with inelastic GDP relationship
with energy during the recent period implies the need for more effective management strategies and policy
interventions in energy sector.

Key words: Energy, Production, Consumption, Elasticity, Energy Intensity & Managerial Issues
