REVIEW OF PRIORITY AND POTENTIAL AGRICULTURAL AREA DEVELOPMENT

Abstract
Economic development of Indonesia is strongly related to agricultural development, thinking of Indonesia is being an agrarian country now which is most of people are farmers. The decreased availability of land for agricultural centrals especially at Java island. The government issue the policy for starting to develope the agriculture are at eastern of Indonesia. The main problem in developing the agriculture in eastern of Indonesia is potential land availability for agriculture area development, land conformity for crops commodity, the culture-social of community and institutional. This research aims to identify the existing potential of Maluku Province by choosing the superior commodity that is suitable to develop for agriculture area. Analytical method used was Location Quotient (LQ) technique and Shift-share Analysis. The result showed that commodity of corn with LQ value of 3.36. and soy bean with LQ value 17,66 in Maluku Barat Daya Regency for corps sector, chili with LQ value 11,94 in West Seram, for horticulture farm and cocoa with LQ value 15,08 in Buru for superior commodity for agriculture. For potential commodity that classified as basic sector and had at least one of region growth component from Shift-share Analysis result were cocoa, nutmeg, clove and coffee which was agricultural commodity. From this research were chosen coconut with an average value of 2.54 LQ and with an average value of 3107,53 and 315,273 as a potential commodity that will be developed.
