A New Algorithm for Feed Forward Neural Network and K-Nearest Neighbors

Abstract
Medical imaging methods have been widely employed in the detection and treatment of lung cancer in the early stages. The drawback of applying image processing methods is the time delay in the diagnosis of each image pattern manually by radiologists. In this paper efforts are made to minimize the time delay for identification of a feasible method by comparing Feed Forward Neural Network with Back Propagation (FFNN-BP) and K-Nearest Neighbors Classifier (KNNC) algorithms. In this analysis various features considered are count of black and white pixels, image histograms from the image segmentation stage. This comparative analysis involves upgrading the process of diagnosis by means of time requirement and accuracy by distinguishing benign (i.e. tumor that is not cancerous) and malignant (i.e. tumor grows unconditionally) patterns automatically. The result reveals that FFNN-BP classifier gives 95% accuracy compared to 76% for k=1, 78% for k=3, 79% for k=5, 82% for k=7, 81% for k=9 of KNNC and we are observed the best accuracy at the value of k=7 .Hence FFNN-BP classifier algorithm can be used for Lung cancer detection.
