AN OVERVIEW ON THE EDUCATIONAL GROWTH, FUTURE PROSPECTS, CHALLENGES AND PERILS OF ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY IN INDIA

Dr. Amardeep kaur Paul.

Abstract
Growth and Development, a process of very long term character should always be sustainable in
nature; there should never be a halt for it. Constant efforts should be made to obtain results of sustainable
development (SD) especially in countries like India. In the present scenario, environmental education (EE) is
becoming a necessity in India and is seen as a tool for change in achieving sustainability. This paper aims to
provide better understanding on the association between EE and SD in India. It offers an outline of several
advantages related to the role of EE towards SD throughout the world and in India. EE seeks to educate students
and help them focus on numerous challenges as well as opportunities for imminent development while SD
focuses more on social, economic and environmental perspectives. This paper is a study to examine in what way
economy, ecology and society could be connected together through education. In addition, quality education is
essential to effectively link these three areas for better sustainable development. This can be accomplished when
we make the desired changes in the process of teaching-learning and the educational setting. This helps in
understanding how innovative programmes of environmental education could provide insights into barriers and
follow-up practices that pose to be a hindrance in achieving educational effectiveness. With the above
background, this paper will also try to suggest certain remedies in order to alleviate problems that act as a major
threat to India’s educational development.

Key words: India, Education, Sustainable Development, Growth, Three Pillars, Problems, Opportunities
