Rajeshwari S, Dr. S. Meenakshi.

Abstract
This research article illuminates the Freudian term of Oedipus syndrome which is caused by unaware
sexual desires towards the parent of the opposite gender. The victim of this syndrome is not aware of his disorder. It
is in the concept of Psychoanalytic theory which was coined by Sigmund Freud, a finding father of psychoanalysis.
Oedipus syndrome was first identified as a kind of mental disorder. According to Freud, the Oedipus complex refers
to the sexual attraction of a boy child towards his mother and aggression towards his father. It is considered as a
social or cultural problem. This article gives a detailed view of how the Oedipus complex occurs in the phallic stage
and the connections with the id and the unconscious part of the mind. The id is driven by the pleasure principle
which lies in the unconscious part of the mind. The way of exhibiting the concept of the Oedipus complex in the
behavior of humans is astonishing.

Key words: Psychoanalysis, Oedipus complex, Id, Phallic stage, Unconscious, Culture.
