FACTORS AFFECTING EXCLUSIVE BREASTDEEDING FAILURE: SCOPING REVIEW

Helleri Fivtrawati, Rosmita Nuzuliana.

Abstract
The low coverage of exclusive breast milk in the world is one of the causes of infant mortality (IMR) in
the world, precisely at 35 per 1000 live births. Breast milk has an important role in maintaining the health and
survival of infants, because babies who are exclusively breastfed have better immune system than babies who are
not given exclusive breastfeeding. Collecting the articles that discuss the factors influence the failure of
exclusive breastfeeding. There were five stages used to conduct this scoping review. The five stages were as
follows: identifying research questions, identifying relevant studies, selecting studies, charting data and
compiling, summarizing and reporting the results. It was found 10 literatures that meet the criteria and have
grades A and B. Three themes as a result of scoping review were predisposing factors which include profession,
education, mother's perception, and culture. Enabling factors include workplace policies. Meanwhile, the
reinforcing factors include the support of health workers and family support. The literature was obtained from
quantitative and qualitative research in developed and developing countries. Predisposing, enabling, and
reinforcing factors were factors that influenced failure in exclusive breastfeeding. The research gap that was
used as a reference in future research was expected that researchers can further develop research related to health
personnel support factors completed with research on factors that affect exclusive breastfeeding such as age,
parity, living conditions, and socioeconomic conditions.

Key words: Factors, Failure, Exclusive Breastfeeding
