Abstract
The researcher has attempted a study the ecology of a new universe in the novels of Brain W. Aldiss. The study uses qualitative research this method that the researcher feels equivalent to analyze the science fiction of Brian W. Aldiss. This qualitative method is subjective and can give the results of the research in forms of words or text. Aldiss’s ecological sensibilities and egalitarian appreciation of identify and difference lead him to a comparative analysis of Earth and Helliconian religion and to a fictional exploration of the eventual communication between an earthly Gaia and its Helliconian counterparts, the original Beholder. In juxtaposing terran and Helliconian religion, Aldiss acknowledges the greater sophistication of Earth’s inhabitants in regard to their attachment to a nondogmatic religious sense surpassing a godhead compared with the Helliconians’ religious grounding in more primitive fealty to a dogmatic spirituality personalified in the All-powerful. Even the practice of “pauk” (or meditative communion with the dead), typically seen as an hallmark of primitive religions on Earth, is interpreted by terrestrial onlookers in sympathetic ways.
