Investigation on Heat Transfer Augmentation in Tubes with Rotating Twisted Tape Insert Using Water and Copper Oxide Nanofluid as Heat Transfer Medium

Abstract
The rate of heat transfer in Fluids is dependent on the movement of the molecules. Lower velocity
of the liquid results in smaller heat transfer co-efficient. Several researchers have studied numerous heat transfer
augmentation techniques in tubes, and they have concluded that the rate of heat transfer may be enhanced with
the help of twisted tape turbulators with a reduced twist ratio (y). The swirling secondary motion of the liquid
within the tube intensifies the heat transfer rate. In the modern-day research work, a completely unique method
has been adopted to augment the heat transfer rate. A twisted tape having twist ratio 2.37 is inserted into the tube
and it is made to rotate continuously for creating more turbulence in the heat carrying liquid, which results in
better heat transfer. Further, a nanofluid (combination of nanoparticles and base fluid) has been used as heat
carrying medium. The nanoparticle suspended in the fluids have higher thermal conductivity than the traditional
fluids used for the transfer of heat between the mediums. The ‘h’ is evaluated for the flow of CuO NF in the tube
with TTT provided with a rotation and the speed of rotation is varied from 0 to 300rpm with a step of 100 RPM.
The experiments are conducted for different flow rates (4, 6 and 8 LPM). Further, under these situations, the
research has been carries out for 0.2% CuO NF as the heat carrying medium. The consequences are compared
with that of flow of water in the bare tube without TTT.
