A UNIFIED APPROACH TO ANIMAL INTRUSION DETECTION FOR PREVENTING HUMAN-WILDLIFE CONFLICT AND CROP PROTECTION

Abstract
There is a demand for higher food production due to rising human population. The productivity of the farm depends on how the vegetation is protected from the attacks of pests, animals and damage due to natural calamities like flood and storm. Crop fields especially that are nearby the forest area, are facing the problem of wild animals entering and damaging crops. A unified approach of Smart Animal Intrusion Detection System that monitors the movement of animals, integrating a number of sensors with LoRaWAN network is proposed in this paper. Sensors like Infrared sensors, optical sensors (cameras), Fiber optic sensors are connected to the LoRa shields, which are connected to the LoRaWAN gateway through a wireless medium. The gateway in turn is connected to a cloud server from which data can be extracted by the user via a webpage and/or Android app. This system will provide the exact location of the area of mishap(s) thereby facilitating timely actions to be taken by the authorities. The implementation and experimental results of the proposed work are described in this paper. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based image classification method is used to categorize the animal that is detected. Simulation results for Fiber optic sensor and image classification are also discussed in the paper.
