FORBIDDEN FOOD IN INDIA DURING ANCIENT PERIOD HISTORICAL APPROACH

Abstract
Food history of any mankind describes the lifestyle of the society of that period. An ecological or medical background is apparent for many, including some that are seen as religious or spiritual in origin.
Indian food vary significantly from region to region due to diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group & occupations. It is also heavily influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. The development of these food has been shaped by religious beliefs, and in particular by vegetarianism, which continue to grow as a dietary trend in Indian society.
Historical incidents such as foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism have also played a role in introducing certain foods to the country. There were many dietary restrictions that people followed time to time based on the religion or faith they profess. Aim of the research paper is to throw light on the untouched, unknown history of food which were supposed to be forbidden during the course of time.
This research paper wants to revive interest in forbidden food research and is an attempt to furnish details about it during ancient period with the help of original translated work and some secondary sources
