FACULTY'S WILLINGNESS TO PROVIDE APPROPRIATE ACCOMEDATIONS TO STUDENTS WITH INTLLECTUAL DISABILITIES AT SAUDI UNIVESITIES

Abstract
This study examines the faculty's willingness to provide accommodations to students with
intellectual disabilities (ID) at Saudi universities. The instrument of this study was an online questionnaire
adapted from a previous study related to disability accommodations. Ninety-five faculty members of a Saudi
public university participated in this study, and numerical data was generated. Statistically, the current study
used descriptive and inferential analysis to address the study questions. The results were described based on the
tables and figures reporting the differences of the study variables. The faculty members were above neutral to
provide accommodations for students with ID in the university. They were more specifically willing to provide
instructional accommodations, including early syllabus, copy of instructor's notes, alternative assignments, using
a laptop computer, alternative teaching approaches, and examinational accommodations such as alternate exam
formats and alternative tests. Finally, there was an statistically significant differences of faculty's willingness
based on gender and academic ranks. Also, male faculty members who have an associate or assistant professor
ranks were willing to accommodate students with ID in universities. The results were discussed with
recommendations for future studies.
