BREAKING THE MYTH OF COLOUR BETWEEN BLACK AND WHITE WOMEN: ALL WOMEN’S LIVES MATTER

Jaspreet Kaur.

Abstract
Amidst movements like Black lives matter where only blacks (both men and women) are
sympathized and empathized, in this paper I will focus on a gender biased society where colour has no role to
play. I talk about the suppressed woman. My paper makes an attempt to argue that a black woman and white
woman are no different from each other rather they replicate each other. This paper endeavours to break the
myth that a black woman is psychologically and physically more suppressed as compared to the white woman
who seems to have a superior position because of her colour. Colour does not decide the suppression of a
woman. White women also face the same degree of oppression as their black sisters in this male dominated
society. This paper aspires to generate a consciousness among all women regarding their inferior position in the
patriarchal society. This paper also argues that women irrespective of their race and colour face similar issues
and should join hands together for emancipating and empowering women folk. This paper analysis and explores
the feminist theories propounded by white writers and compares them analytically with the feminist theories
propounded by black writers.

Key words: Black woman, White woman, Black Feminism, White Feminism, Commonalities, Concerns, Collective Struggle, Gender inequality, Breaking the myth, Raising consciousness.
