Saleh Mohammad Rawadieh.

Abstract
This study aimed to reveal the dimensions and patterns of international relations (IRs) included in the Jordanian
history textbooks used during the year 2019-2020, by analyzing their content. To achieve this objective, the content
analysis instrument of international relations (CAIIR) was developed that consisted of three main dimensions, and
(38) items, and the “theme unit” was used for the purpose of analysis. After collecting and analyzing data, several
results were concluded, the most important of which were: The number of ideas which reflected the IRs in all
textbooks reached (397) ideas (items) distributed as follow: the political and military dimension (37.3%), the
economic dimension (27%), and the social and cultural dimension (35.7%). The results showed a dominance of IRs
represented by the pattern of cooperation (63.2%), compared to those represented by the pattern of competition and
conflict (36.8%). The study concluded that IRs were not distributed on the different dimensions and on all textbooks
in a balanced and moderate way, as both the political and military dimension and the social and cultural dimension
outperformed the economic dimension in terms of the number of relations included in each of them. Also, the
textbooks of the 2nd secondary grade and 10th grade contained about 60% of the number of relations included in all
textbooks. In light of these results, the researcher concluded several recommendations and suggestions.

Key words: dimensions of IRs, patterns of IRs, history textbooks
