DISTRIBUTION NETWORK POWER QUALITY ENHANCEMENT BY ANN AND STATCOM

Abstract
The main aim of this project is distributed network power quality enhancement by Artificial Neural
Network (ANN) and Distributed static synchronous compensator (DSTATCOM). In distribution system the major
problem is power quality. DSTATCOM is a power source FACTS device, which can be used in reactive power
injection or voltage control mode. It is important to provide the operator in energy control centers with real-time
solutions for safe operation and control of power systems. For this function, artificial neural networks are proposed
as they can accurately and rapidly synthesize complex maps. In order to estimate control / operational parameters of
DSTATCOM used to improve voltage profile at different load conditions of the power system, two neural feedforward
neural networks are created. This paper proposes an implementation of harmonics attenuation,
compensation of reactive power, balance of load, control of zero voltage and correction of the power factor. The
other main contribution of this project is to operate the system at the point of interconnection at 3-phase voltages
under abnormal distribution network conditions. The proposed system is studied by MATLAB/SIMULINK
environment.
