INSTITUTIONAL DELIVERY OF WOMEN AT CHILD BIRTH IN INDIA: DOES SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC AND GEOGRAPHICAL FACTORS REFLECT SIGNIFICANT VARIATION?

Abstract
This study is an attempt to understand the scope of institutional deliveryin India and explore the variation in it by
key geographical, social and demographical factors. The study has been conducted by using data from latest
District Level household and facility survey across India and Analysis of Variance test and tabular presentation
has been used to analyze the data. It has been found that, regional and residential variation in institutional delivery
is significant. Southern region and urban residence in India has more institutional delivery. No significant
variation has been observed across castes and religions in India regarding institutional delivery. Moreover no
linear relationship has been found between institutional delivery of women and birth order. The findings of the
study are immensely beneficial to undertake policy measures to expand the opportunities of institutional delivery
and reduction of wide variation in it across India.
