EFFECT OF ROTATION ON COUPLE-STRESS FERROMAGNETIC FLUID HEATED AND SOLUTED FROM BELOW IN THE PRESENCE OF VARIABLE GRAVITY FIELD

Abstract
A linear stability analysis is executed for the thermosolutal instability of couple-stress
ferromagnetic fluid in the presence of variable gravity field and rotation. The fluid layer is considered to be
heated and soluted from below. To find the exact solution for a couple-stress ferromagnetic fluid layer contained
between two free boundaries, the normal mode technique is used. The critical Rayleigh number for the onset of
instability is determined numerically and graphically. For the case of stationary convection, stable solute
gradient has a stabilizing effect on the system. Also, couple-stress has both stabilizing and destabilizing effect
under certain conditions. Rotation has a stabilizing effect on the system for   0 and destabilizing effect for
  0 . It is also found that in the absence of stable solute gradient; magnetization has a stabilizing effect for
both   0 and  0 . In the absence of rotation and stable solute gradient, the principle of exchange of
stabilities is found to hold true for certain conditions.
