A NOVEL APPROACH FOR PLANT DISEASE DETECTION AND SOLUTIONS

Abstract
The agricultural land is much more than being a feeding source in today’s world. The Indian economy is highly
supported by agricultural productivity. Therefore in the field of agriculture, detection of diseases in plants in the very initial
stage and monitoring the plant diseases plays a very important role to prevent the losses in the yield of agricultural product. The
study of the plant diseases means the study of visually observable patterns seen on the plant leaves. It is a laborious task
manually check the crop diseases and can be done only in less areas. Whereas if automatic disease detection technique is used, it
would take less efforts, less time and will be accurate. In plants, some general diseases seen are yellow and brown spots, late and
early scorch, and others are fungal, bacterial and viral diseases. Hence Image Processing technique, which involves the steps like
Image Acquisition, Image Preprocessing, Image Segmentation, Feature extraction and Classification, is used to predict the crop
disease, if any. This paper, mainly aims to find a solution to detect the diseases of plants using leaf images. After the plant
disease is predicted, the farmer is suggested with the nutrients and fertilizers, if any are to be applied to plants. The farmer is
connected to fertilizer vendors through the Android app where he can buy the required fertilizers without the intervention of
middlemen. Also, the farmer can contact the agricultural experts directly to get any clarifications.
