Abstract
The population growth, Industrialization, ground water contamination and depletion and increasing
agricultural practices resulted in lowering of water table in Ghaziabad district offers great opportunities to conserve rain
water. Rainwater harvesting (RWH) is the practice of collecting rainwater and stores that water above the ground or
recharge the underground water for later use. The groundwater resources are contaminating and depleting so fast in the
district that it becomes the need of the hour to harvest the rainwater to cope up with the water problem. Rainwater
harvesting will not only be helpful to meet the demand of water supply but also be helpful to improve the quality of
water. Here, in this paper our focus is to study the conditions of rainfall and ground water depletion and contamination in
Ghaziabad district and if there is a need of ground water recharge through rainwater harvesting in the district? and also to
provide sustainable solution to the problem.

Key words: Depletion; Groundwater; Harvest; Rainfall; Recharge; Resources.
