Review on Targeted Cancer Therapy

Abstract
Cancer is a disease of a neurodegenerative nature, and is a major cause of death in the world. The risk factors involve diverse genetic backgrounds, sustained environmental exposure and poor diet. These two risk factors cause a buildup of molecular modifications or mutations which lead to carcinogenesis in some important cell proteins.
Chemotherapy is a successful cure against cancer but the main hurdles in cancer chemotherapy are adverse chemotherapy reactions and the creation of drug resistance resulting in “Multidrug Resistance” (MDR). Alternate treatments such as resistance control e.g., PSC833, e.g., ICRF-187, and gene therapy provide approaches which are in use with minimal progress. Thanks to its sensitivity against cancer cells, “Targeted therapy” is increasing popularity thus avoiding off-target toxicity to the cells. The focus of this analysis covers the different approaches used in selective therapy of like-monoclonal antibodies, small molecule inhibitors as well as conjugates of Nano-particulate antibodies.

Key words: Cancer Treatment, Chemotherapy, Targeted Therapy, Nano-Particulate Antibodies
