Ocular Viral Gene Therapy for Inherited Retinal Disease

Niraj Kumar Jha, Garima Chauhan.

Abstract
Inherited retinal disease (IRD) is a rare, heterogeneous category of eye disease, which results in gene mutation degeneration. In the last three decades, retinal gene therapy has increased dramatically due to the retinal disorders. Specific measures have been put in place to thoroughly research and analyze the capabilities for transduction of gene vectors, determine the appropriate routes for intraocular administration and obtain the evidence of effectiveness in inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) animal models. Included in clinical practice was ocular gene therapy. The best choice at present is for viral vectors to be substituted and/or correct; yet, to deliver translation efficiency and reduce iatrogenic risk for retinal epithelial or photoreceiver cells the optimal way to deliver these treatments has still to be improved. In comparison to the therapy of viral-moderated gene replacing drugs, non-virus gene delivery strategies provide a guarantee that the secreted therapeutic proteins, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), will be continually fine-tuned to the progress of the disease path.

Key words: Inherited retinal disease (IRDs), Intraocular administration, Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), Iatrogenic risks, Ocular gene therapy, Retinal degeneration, Viral-moderated gene.
