AN ADVANCED CONTROL APPROACH FOR THE CONVERTERS OF HVDC TRANSMISSION LINK FOR OFFSHORE WIND FARM APPLICATIONS

Abstract
The main objective of the paper is to investigate the effect of control strategies in a network consisting of High
Voltage Direct current(HVDC) transmission lines used for offshore wind power transmission. This paper proposes a very
simple control strategy based on Feedback linearization (FL)for the control of HVDC converters.The control law is derived
using pole placement technique after transforming the nonlinear system into a linear one. The transformation technique used in
this work reduces the computational complexities as compared to thecase in Lyapunovfunction based transformations. The
proposed method is verified through simulations after its modeling in MATLAB programming environment.The performance
results show the simplicity of the control as well as its additional effect in mitigating the power system oscillations as
compared to traditional PI control methods.
