Abstract
Background: Modern music, considering its merits, is of little use both in the educational process and in the concert repertoire of musician-performers, which is connected with the complexity of mastering its concepts and musical language. Aim: The research is dedicated to the assessment of the effectiveness of modern methods for musical language acquisition. Results: The difficult task of introducing modern students of musical and pedagogical universities and departments of culture and art to Russian and foreign avant-garde music is solved by the use of problem-based teaching methods that appeal primarily to the creative abilities of students, their heuristic thinking, and desire for self-expression. Conclusions: The problem-based method actualizes an action-oriented practical approach to learning, which is most effective in the process of mastering complex material, including the music of the 20th century. That is why problem-based teaching methods must be preferred in the process of professional preparation of students of culture and art universities who master the music of the 20th century, which is confirmed by the pedagogical experience. An important aspect of the study is that it allows proving that unusual new impressions received by students on their own in the process of complex intellectual search for solutions to problems cause an emotional response, are more clearly imprinted in memory, and satisfy the aesthetic needs of the students themselves. Based on the problem-based teaching method, it is possible to solve the goals and objectives facing music education, from the formation of general musical culture to the mastery of professional competencies.
