EVALUATION OF PATIENT SAFETY CULTURE FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF HOSPITALS AFFILIATED TO IRAN UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES

Abstract
Background
Patient safety culture as one of the components of quality of health services is of great importance and is one of the fundamental pillars of monitoring in the accreditation of medical centers. Since the first step towards building such a culture is the evaluation of patient safety culture in hospitals, this study aimed to determine the patient safety culture from the viewpoints of hospital staff affiliated to Iran University of Medical Sciences and its influencing factors.
Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 266 employees of hospitals affiliated to Iran University of Medical Sciences. The sample of the study was proportional stratified. Data collection was done using a standardized questionnaire "Evaluation of Hospital Patient Safety Culture". Data were analyzed using the statistical tests of Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, and Spearman correlation using SPSS software.
Results: In the studied hospitals, the highest and the lowest mean scores for patient safety culture were related to the dimensions of organizational learning and continuous improvement and then the non-punitive response to errors; There was no significant relationship between demographic variables and patient safety culture scores (p <0.05).
Conclusions: The results need to improve patient safety culture in terms of expectations and actions of the supervisor/director of the unit to improve safety, and provide feedback on the errors, the frequency of reporting accidents, improve teamwork between the part and the non-punitive response to error Showed.
