STUDY OF ACUTE POISONING IN MORE THAN 14 YEARS OLD PATIENTS THAT ADMITTED TO IMAM SAJJAD HOSPITAL OF YASUJ IN APRIL 2016 TO MARCH 2017

Abstract
Background: Poisoning refers to the formation of body impairment by the toxic substance that can be produced through inhalation, oral or injection. Poisoning can occur voluntary or involuntary. Poisoning is a major mental health problem in all societies, and one of the most common causes of referral to emergency rooms. Every year many people suffer from intentional or accidental poisoning, from mild illness to or admission to intensive care units and deaths, which impose a high burden of physical and mental health on the community, the family and the individual.
Materials & Methods: The total number of cases of poisoning in upper 14 years old patients who referred to Imam Sajjad Hospital in Yasuj in 2016 was 937 that by look up to Yasuj Imam Sajjad Hospital's archives, were extracted information such as age, sex, substance of poisoning agent, number of admission days, times of admission , occupation, education, marital status, place of residence, season and time of poisoning by the checklist from clinical files of These patients. Then, this information was analyzed by descriptive statistics by SPSS 24 software.
Results: The mean age of patients was 25.85 9.48. 52.8% of the patients were female. Of these, 7 (0.7%) patients died and the other patients were discharged from the hospital after recovery. Of these, futile, 5 were poisoned with aluminum phosphide and two cases were due to poisoning with unknown factors. The most abundant substances were benzodiazepine poisoning, that be include 42% of poisoning cases. After benzodiazepines, poisoning with unknown substances, acetaminophen and methadone, were the most frequent.
Conclusion: The most common cause of acute poisoning, in all age and sex groups, different seasons and different levels of education, are benzodiazepine drugs, which seems to be due to convenient access to these drugs. Further studies can be found reasons of this.
