Tarangini Das.

Abstract
The early years of life of an individual are the pivotal years for setting the path of learning. It is evident that the children who have strong, dependable caring relationships with adults and have a good experience of early life with family are more likely to adapt to the school environment. During the 18th century there were two educational systems to educate the child. One was the philosophical and other was observation. Development in this respect was made during the second half of 19th century. Now it is necessary for the teacher to acquire knowledge about interests, aptitude, aspirations of the child. The early childhood educators have their own philosophies and approaches to be applied to educating the children. Their approaches include knowledge about the early childhood growth and development, knowledge about the theories. Besides, a great deal of experiences with the children in different learning environment is also needed, so that it will help them to carry on their duties properly and handle any kind of situation. More importance should be given by the teachers or the pedagogues to the ability of the children to solve the problem than to understand a concept.

Key words: Early childhood education, pedagogy, child-centered education, cognitive development, egocentrism, animalism.
