ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFECTS OF STIFFNESS ON THE SEISMIC BEHAVIOUR OF FRAMED BUILDINGS

Abstract
The present work is focused on the study of the effect of stiffness in the behaviour of framed buildings in earthquakes. With the percentage increase in the stiffness, of all its columns, by 5%. corresponding change in stiffness parameter, the variation in the building model for base shear, peak storey shear, storey displacement, mass participation factor, natural frequency and time period were studied. In the present, G+4 storey building model, increased stiffness resulted in increased natural frequency as well as base shear of the building frequency of a structure. As, decreasing the base shear, increment the lateral stiffness due to the irregular geometry of the framed building. The mass participation of the building increased in the x-direction, with the increased lateral stiffness in the x- direction. The natural period of vibration is less in case of stiff frame than the flexible one.
