THE EFFECTS OF LEARNING CLIMATE AND SELF-CONCEPT ON THE KINDERGARTENSí INDEPENDENCE: AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY

Abstract
This study aimed to describe the effects of learning climate and self-concept on the kindergartnersí indepedence. It used Quasi-experimental method with 2x2 factorial designs and conducted at kindergartens in Batang Hari Regency, Jambi Province. The research sample were 60 children selected based on score test of self-concept within the positive was 33% from the highest scores and the negative was 33% from the lowest scores. The results of this study highlighted four major findings; a) the cooperative learning climate can increase the kindergarten indepedence better than competitive learning climate, b) for the children with positive self-concept, the cooperative learning climate can insrease the kindergarten indepedence better than competitive learning climate, c) for the children with negative self-concept, the competitive learning climate can increase the kindergarten indepedence better than cooperative learning climate, and d) both learning climate and self-concept can increase the kindergarten independence. Hence, the application of cooperative learning climate will impact at planning and instructional development, teacherís role, and management at kindergarten, as well as interaction at Lembaga Pendidikan Tenaga Kependidikan(LPTK).
