EFFECTIVENESS OF STRUCTURED TEACHING PROGRAMME AMONG SCHOOL TEACHERS REGARDING HEAT STROKE MANAGEMENT

Abstract
Background: Heat stroke is a major medical emergency leading to multiple organ dysfunctioning causes morbidity & mortality. More than 6,000 people have died because of heat waves in India since 2010, according to government data. School teachers are always at front in the schools, they have to face similar problems, so they should be more knowledgeable and manageable such situations skillfully to prevent morbidity & mortality due to heatstroke.
Objective: To improve the knowledge of school teachers regarding management of heat stroke at primary level.
Methods: Pre experimental design was used, 22 school teachers were selected by simple random sampling technique.
Findings: 23% subjects had well, 64% had average and 13% had poor knowledge regarding heat stroke and its management in the pre-test while 27% subjects had well, 68% had average, and 5% had poor knowledge in the post-test taken. It shows that there was significant difference in the mean score of knowledge regarding heat stroke and its management before& after structured teaching programme. Mean score of knowledge increased from 17.36 to 23.13, standard deviation values of pre & post were 1.432 to 0.639. This shows the effectiveness of structured teaching programme i.e. increase in the knowledge of subjects.
Conclusions: It is concluded that the structured teaching program was effective onmanagement of heat stroke among school teachers.
