EFFECT OF SIMULATION-BASED CPR EDUCATION ON THE KNOWLEDGE AND PERFORMANCE OF NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT NURSES

Abstract
Introduction: Knowledge and performance of nurses play an important role in the health and clinical improvement of neonates. This role is highly emphasized in emergency cases, like CPR. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of simulation-based CRP education on knowledge and performance of neonatal intensive care unit nurses.
Material and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study between 2019 and 2020, 21 neonatal intensive care unit (NICUs) nurses were selected by convenience sampling method. First, the performance of nurses in CPR was evaluated based on a standard checklist, then CRP education were conducted in a one-hour session through small group discussion and simulation. Six months after the education, the performance of nurses in CPR was re-evaluated and analyzed by SPSS software version 25.
Results: After education, the mean of knowledge and performance was calculated 32.231.8, which significantly changed compared to before the education (17.85.3) (P <0.05).
Conclusion: As the results showed, the performance of nurses in CPR needs further attention and effective education. Therefore, it is recommended to provide nurses with simulation-based education and small group discussions to improve their clinical performance.
