PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT OF COVID-19 IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETES MELLITUS

Abstract
COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease-2019), a condition caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. WHO and public health agencies around the world are taking steps to control COVID-19 outbreak. People with compromised immune systems and those suffering from illnesses such as diabetes, heart and lung disease are also more vulnerable to serious disease. People with diabetes are at risk of developing infections, especially influenza and pneumonia. To those people who have diabetes (above 2 years old), pneumococcal and regular influenza vaccines are recommended. Currently data on COVID-19 is limited in patients with diabetes. The study of 72,314 cases of COVID-19 reported by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention found increased mortality among people with diabetes (2.3%, total and 7.3%, diabetes patients). In this review, major emphasis is given to Primary and Secondary care delivered diabetes services , General Preventive Measures, Regulation in Diabetes patients with COVID 19 and unproven treatments and future directions taken for care of Covid-19 positive Diabetic patients.
