SYNTHESIS, SPECTRAL CHARACTERISATION AND CALCULATION OF CRYSTAL-FIELD PARAMETERS OF SOME CU(II) COMPLEXES

Abstract
The Cu(II) complexes with Glycine as the primary ligand and Pyridine, α-picoline, β-picoline and oxine as
secondary ligandshave been synthesized.From elemental analysis and molar conductivity measurement, complexes
were formulated as [ML2X2] where L is primary ligand, X is secondary ligand and M stands for Cu(II). These
complexes have been characterized by FTIR spectra and electronic spectra. The FTIR-spectra of complex
compounds were compared with that of free ligand which unveils the coordination of the prime ligand through
amino-nitrogen and carboxylic oxygen forming a five membered chelate ring. The electronic spectra of complexes
were recorded and the values of different transition bands were fitted into reported expressions to calculate the
crystal-field parameters Dq, Ds and Dttherefrom.
