ENERGY SAVING VM MIGRATION TECHNIQUES

Abstract
With the advent of communication and virtualization, technologies have been converted into the information
centers, which are established and operated using new equipments for the optimum use and regulation of the materials of
data centers. Particularly, the Virtual Machine (VM) migration is the robust service management method that provides the
capability to the data centre users to adapt the storage of the VM for better service performance and to enhance the resource
usage. This also helps to cut down the energy exhaustion and ease the network management activities among data centers
worldwide. Instead of the potential applications, VM migration comprises of different novel approaches build upon the
underlying communication structure like internet addressing and traffic rate, which provides variability to migration. This
paper presents the study of the latest migration techniques of VMs with the consideration of energy usage and associated
parameters in data centers. After the comprehensive review of the recent literature, a detailed taxonomy is presented for the
classification of the VM migration methods. In addition, a detailed description of open research challenges of the VM
migration techniques has also been given. Moreover, the live and non live migration has also been examined that includes
the pre-copy, post copy and hybrid migration methods.
