PURIFICATION OF WET PROCESS PHOSPHORIC ACID USING ORGANIC SOLVENTS

Abstract
In literature there is accumulated rather extensive material, aimed the purification wet process phosphoric acid (WPA)
with different contaminants. The main methods for cleaning WPA is evaporation based on blowing volatile component, liquid
extraction by organic solvent, ion exchange, recrystallization with receive cleaned crystal Н3РО4, precipitation using the alkaline
and ammonia, adsorption, especially actuated coal. The solvent extraction is promising way, which is easy can be regenerated and
is used repeatedly. Initially, desulfurization of WPA containing (wt. %): Р2О5 - 16.46; CaO - 0.052; MgO - 1.11; SO3 - 2.98;
Fe2O3 - 0.28; Al2O3 - 0.42; F - 0.99, is performed using carbonate calcium. In that case, WPA desulfurization rate of 85.65%.
Afterwards, more deep purification process of the desulfurized WPA with using organic solvents such as propanol, isopropanol,
isobutanol, ethyl alcohols and acetone were applied. Among them, isobutyl alcohol precipitates the unwanted impurities vastly
worse, but isopropanol vastly better. It should be noted that the maximum loss of phosphorus with precipitates can occur in case
of isopropanol. Acetone and ethyl alcohol were chosen with point of view for accessibility of the solvents in the manner of their
mixture under three-phase excess to WPA. After regeneration of the acetone and alcohol by distillation, samples of WPA with
concentration more than 45% Р2О5 were produced. This kind of acid is quite suitable to prepare a phosphate ammonium,
applicable at dipping irrigation in hothouse facilities. However, sludge, forming after desulfurization and organic solvent process,
are recommended as slow releasing phosphorus magnesium fertilizers.
