STRENGTH AND DURABILITY EFFECT OF MARBLE POWDER ON SELF COMPACTING CONCRETE

Abstract
Marble powder is a significant environmental problem for all countries that have a marble stone industry.
The problem primarily originates from the impossibility of storing marble powder. Absorbing, eliminating,
and recycling waste marble powder is of great importance in terms of environmental health, environmental
pollution, and economic loss of countries. Marble industries are growing significantly as marble is using in
the field of construction in buildings and monuments as decorative and construction work at a larger scale.
As the industries are growing, the generation of waste marble is also increasing and causing many
environmental impacts. Another side self-compacting concrete is a revolutionary product that is not so much
popular in the field of construction due to its higher production cost. This project aims to study the
practicability use of marble powder in place of fine aggregate to produce an eco-friendly and workable selfcompacting
concrete. The marble powder will be used as partial replacement of fine aggregate, with the
replacement levels 5%,10%,15%, and 20%. The effect of using marble powder as fine aggregates will be
investigated in terms of workability, compressive strength, flexural strength, and water absorption of selfcompacting
concrete. The experimental program included two phases. The first phase will be the
preliminary investigation of marble powder to use as fine aggregate. In the second phase, the fresh and
hardened properties of SCC will be investigated. Slump flow, V- funnel tests, and L- box test will be
conducted to assess the self compactability properties of fresh concrete, while compression, flexural, and
water absorption will be conducted to evaluate its hardened characteristics.
