EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL APPROACH TO STUDY THE EFFECT OF BIOCOMPOSITE MATERIAL TO ENHANCE DURABILITY OF WOOD BASED COMPOSITE MATERIAL

Abstract
This research is about the new technology that used solid wood as a product like furniture,
composite wood product and others. This research is done to improve the wood properties
such as durability by combining with the others material such as wood composite materials.
The wood possesses have several weaknesses especially for solid wood where it has low
ductility, fragile, low hardness and many more. This study to improve the durability, hardness
and mechanical properties of wood composites when it is composite with other materials.
SolidWorks software was used to simulate the characteristic of biocomposite materials in
term of mechanical properties same with the experimental method. Charpy impact test was
used to calculate the energy needed to fracture the samples during the impact process. Then
the energy is converted to force and then from it we can calculated the stress value to be used
as comparison with the simulation results. Some parameters were used like force and type of
composite woods to make sure the experimental and simulation result are accurate and
relevant. The composite between Merbau and Plywood give the highest value in term of
stress and displacement. It also was proven by using SolidWorks simulation it was able to
with the percentage difference only from 1.14% until 23.24% from the experimental design.
